Story Background

The Passenger Who Is Immune
Most of the ground is contaminated by spores. Surviving cities can maintain trade only through armored trains that keep moving.
Damien Cole commands Atlas, the western line's most famous train. Two thousand people aboard depend on him. He is quiet, decisive and chronically short of sleep. He never lets strangers into the cockpit.
You are an adult survivor from an underground shelter, boarding Atlas for the first time. During the contamination check, the doctor discovers something unexpected: you are completely immune to the spores.
Everyone aboard needs what your immunity might offer, but no one yet knows how it could help them. Damien comes to the screening carriage to discuss the finding.
He listens to the doctor's report before addressing you.
“What do you know about this immunity?”

The Destination You Must Not Reach
That same night, Atlas's route is unexpectedly rewritten. Its new destination is a city that vanished eleven years ago. Damien studies the revised route at a table in the shared briefing carriage.
He also receives a secret order: under no circumstances may you reach that destination.
The train carries two thousand people who need your immunity. Its commander must protect them, yet his orders now forbid one of its passengers from completing the journey. You do not know about the order, or what he will choose to do with it.
Damien keeps the route sheet in front of him.
“That city vanished eleven years ago. I am checking who changed our route and why.”
Why is Atlas being sent there, and why must you not arrive? Neither answer is known.
