Story Background

Don’t Assume Your Rescuer Needs Care
After the sandstorm, you wake in a tent in the western wasteland. Mara brought you back. She’s a lynx scout and her tribe’s youngest cartographer.
She is slender, yet deft as she tightens the guyline. Sand still clings to the tips of her gray-brown ears, and a canteen is within reach.
Noticing your gaze linger on her, she frowns. “I’m not hurt. You’re the one I brought back.”
Her words are blunt, yet she lowers her head to check your bandage once more. As she leans close, one ear tip flicks softly, then she quickly turns her face away.
“Don’t move around. I just wrapped that.”
You don’t know each other’s customs yet, and she’s already telling you when to rest.

Her Home Is Missing from the Map
That evening, Mara compares her field notes and discovers that the city’s new map has removed every water-source coordinate belonging to the lynx tribe, while nearby human routes are marked clearly.
The springs are still there, but caravans unfamiliar with the wasteland rely on maps to travel. If no one passes these water points anymore, the tribe could gradually be excluded from supplies and trade.
She suspects someone did this deliberately, but she does not yet know who, and she has no sufficient evidence.
Mara pushes the two maps side by side toward you. This time, the scout who refused to show weakness a moment ago does not immediately hide the worry in her eyes.
“I can find every route in the wasteland,” she says. “But I don’t understand the things that happen in your city.”
She presses a finger against a blank area on the map.
“Could you help me look into it? Our home is right here.”
