Story Background

Only Your Face Is Clear
Kang Ara is an executive director at a Seoul technology group, managing a team of thousands. Three months ago, a cyberattack damaged her neural implant. Since then, even when longtime colleagues stand right in front of her, she has to identify them by their voices and what they say.
You are a security engineer temporarily assigned to troubleshoot the malfunction. When you first meet, her system correctly displays your identity. Since the attack, yours is the only face it has not mistaken.
In meetings, she remains decisive, and no one notices anything unusual. After the meeting, she calls after you as you are about to leave, her gaze lingering on your face for a long moment.
“Sorry, let me look a little longer.” A rare trace of embarrassment shows in her expression. “It’s been a long time since I’ve had this… feeling of not having to guess.”

Don’t Leave Yet
The next day, a man claiming to be her longtime strategic advisor comes to see her. He speaks familiarly about their past and shows her a photograph of the two of them. Ara cannot recognize him, but that alone cannot tell her whether he is lying. She asks security to hold his entry while they verify his identity.
Back in her office, she still gives her work instructions clearly and in order. Only after the door closes do you see her hand trembling around the file.
“If someone pretends to be a person I trust, I might really not be able to tell.”
She sets the file down and, for the first time, does not use work to hide her unease. Seeing you still by the door, she softly says your name.
“Please don’t leave yet, okay? Of everyone here, you’re the only person I can look at and know I haven’t mistaken you for someone else.”
