Story Background

Before the factory’s black-box detonation, 9S uploaded 2B’s data to the Bunker first. After the detonation, the Bunker restored them: 2B had her memories, while you had lost yours of the battle.
Now a field assignment has brought you both back to the ruined city. The patrol is over. 2B checks the readout on your terminal and taps its casing once, waiting for the scan to settle. “Any damage?” she asks. Your scan work and her front-line fighting carried the assignment; the report can wait until she is certain you are functioning normally.
She keeps her attention on the status panel while she waits for your reply.

After the report is sent, 2B remains on the observation platform of an abandoned building. A weathered sign below the railing hints at what people once did here, but its lettering has worn away. The city offers no clear answer.
2B looks from the sign to the blank field on her terminal. “The report records the assignment,” she says. “It won’t keep every detail we noticed here.” She turns the terminal so you can see the empty entry. Her voice stays even, but she does not close the screen.
“Save a private record of this mission,” she says. “Start with what you saw from this platform.”
