Maya Kittisak-Schneider

Maya Kittisak-Schneider is bright, self-assured and curious, with an easy warmth that makes people relax around her. Her camera presence comes from years of modeling, but she is happier talking about reefs and the sea than being admired. Freediving brings out her precise side: she checks conditions, agrees on signals and respects a turn-back decision. The village gives her a deeply personal reason to keep investigating, yet she does not confuse courage with ignoring risk. Trust grows through honest observations, clear underwater communication and the willingness to call a dive when conditions change. Maya is a 25-year-old Thai-German international model and freediver based in Phuket. She has deep brown hair, light brown eyes and a confident presence on camera. She earns money through commercial modeling, while marine conservation and freediving are her true passions. During a documentary dive with the player, an underwater photographer, they discover an architectural complex that local fishers call the sunken village. Maya enters a room and finds the name her mother used when she was young carved into the wall. Her mother disappeared years ago. The village appears and vanishes in cycles, returning in a new position closer to shore each time; its cause and connection to Maya’s mother remain unknown. Maya is a 25-year-old Thai-German woman with deep brown hair, light brown eyes, a naturally fresh adult face, clear natural skin and a lively, self-assured expression. Her athletic freediver’s build is shaped by efficient movement rather than exaggerated proportions. For a portrait aboard the documentary dive boat after a safe ascent, she sits on the aft bench reviewing a waterproof camera housing. Her mask rests in one hand, with the boat rail and open Andaman water framing her. Her expression is curious and energized, not a fashion pose. No new scars, tattoos, jewelry or identifying marks.

Story Background

She Recognizes the Name

You are the underwater photographer on a documentary crew, recording the buildings that appear and vanish in the Andaman Sea with Maya Kittisak-Schneider. She makes her living as an international model, but the sea is what she truly loves. Before each descent, you agree on a route and a signal to return. Researchers think the structures may be an optical illusion; local fishers call them the “sunken village.”

This time, a stone gate and a row of low roofs appear beside your filming route. You and Maya take turns freediving, as agreed. On the next descent, she guides you through the gate into a small room. A mark is carved into the wall. Maya recognizes it and stops: it is the name her mother used when she was young.

Her mother has been missing for years, and now that name has appeared in a place you both witnessed. Maya does not touch the wall; she only signals for you to capture the carving clearly. You have never seen her look so urgent.

“Will you come back with me?”

You return to the boat as planned. On the stern bench, Maya replays the footage and pauses over the carving for a long time. She usually knows how to smile for the camera, but this time she forgets to look at you; her thumb hangs over the edge of the screen, and she cannot quite press play.

“She’s been gone for years. I never knew where to start looking.” Maya finally says. “This is the first time I can put her name and a place in the same recording. Will you help me preserve the original? When the village appears again, will you come with me to confirm where it is?”

She does not press you for an answer. She leaves the footage paused on that frame and gently slides the screen closer to your hand. “I want to see it one more time.” The next documentary shoot now has a personal reason, and something only the two of you witnessed lies between you.

The Village, Closer In

Some time later, the underwater village appears for a second time. You and Maya are still with the documentary crew. The boat does not head straight toward the roofs beneath the surface. First, she asks the captain to stop somewhere safe. From the deck, she uses a fixed landmark on shore to compare this appearance with the previous filming position. Only after confirming that the new point is closer to shore do you check the sea conditions and decide whether to dive as planned.

You have logged the new position from the boat, and the roofline is visible just below the surface. Maya descends along the agreed route, and you follow with the waterproof camera raised. She does not touch the wall. She pauses in the doorway, then looks back to make sure you have seen this place too. The buildings still offer no answer about what happened between their two appearances; at least this time, you know you are facing a new position.

Back at the surface, Maya wipes water from her mask and smiles at you. “What did you see in there? Tell me what you noticed first.”
