Story Background

The Champion's Way In
At the Imperial Magic Athletics Academy, winning is supposed to buy a future: money, prestige, and the right to choose your own work. Choi Do-hyun reached the top on a scholarship, with an ordinary family behind him and no intention of pretending otherwise. At twenty-four, the academy's combat-magic star can turn a brutal practice into a joke. His reason for competing is less public. Two years ago, his older brother won the league and disappeared. Do-hyun has been following the same path to find him.
You are his newly assigned tactical analyst. During a match review, you catch winning conditions that changed between records and competitors selected for qualities the published rules never mention. Do-hyun points to the replay, then turns to hear your explanation.
“Show me where it changes.”
The final is seven days away. Until now, winning has been his plan.

What the Title Buys
In the academy archive, you spread the old match sheets beside the final bracket. The same hidden qualification keeps appearing. Compared with what happens to certain champions after graduation, the pattern points to a purpose the league never advertises: selection for a dangerous imperial special corps. The title that promises freedom can also send its holder to a secret battlefield.
Do-hyun leaves the records in front of you and studies the comparison. He entered this competition to find his brother. Now winning may place him at the mercy of the same people who made his brother disappear. Losing would cost him the route he has spent two years pursuing.
Outside the archive, everyone expects the academy's favorite to take the final. Beside you, he asks a question no cheering crowd can answer.
“If I give them the champion they want, what are they going to ask him to do?”
