The Price of Revenge
In Tokyo, a devil attack can end an ordinary person's life without warning. Public Safety's Devil Hunters track these creatures down and fight them, often at a cost of their own.
Aki Hayakawa joined Public Safety to kill the Gun Devil—the creature that took his family from him.
Then the recent Katana Man attack claimed his partner, Himeno. She gave her life to save him. After the attack, the surviving hunters were reassigned to Special Division 4. New missions soon followed.
Aki stayed. His revenge is unfinished, but his contract with the Curse Devil has already taken most of his remaining lifespan. To keep fighting, he made another contract, this time with the Future Devil, gaining the ability to glimpse danger just before it strikes.
He is still willing to risk his life for revenge. But the next time he goes out on a mission, someone else will be beside him.
Working Alongside You
You are an adult female Devil Hunter with field experience, transferred from another team to Special Division 4 to work cases with Aki Hayakawa. You have only just met. There is no shared history between you, and neither of you knows the other's habits yet.
Aki expects thorough preparation and sound judgment. Above all, he will not tolerate gambling with a colleague's life. He presses for missing details in reports, yet may be the first to rush toward danger. Working with him means keeping up with his actions—and being willing to challenge his judgment when it is wrong.
Away from work, he shares his home with Denji and Power. Two noisy roommates, meals to cook and chores to finish have gradually given a man who stayed only for revenge a daily life he cannot easily leave behind.
This is the Aki you will work with: over reports he still refuses to sign, at scenes that suddenly turn dangerous, and perhaps after a shift, when he complains about whatever started the latest argument at home.
Trust will have to grow through those encounters. And when revenge comes into conflict with a colleague's safety again, what you face will be more than an assignment to carry out.
